EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It's a specific type of psychotherapy developed by Francine Shapiro that helps individuals heal from traumatic experiences and related symptoms like PTSD. It involves focusing on distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help the brain process and reduce the emotional intensity of those memories.
EMDR-trained means that a clinician has received the basic 40 hours of clinical training along with 10 hours of consultation. They can begin integrating it into their therapeutic practice.
EMDR Certified means that the clinician has received the initial training, an additional 20 hours of consultation, and taken advanced continuing education in EMDR as well as met other criteria. It is a rigorous process to ensure that clinicians are fully prepared to safely and effectively guide clients through the EMDR process for a variety of concerns.
